How to Install Solar Connectors?

2025-06-18

The correct installation of solar connectors directly affects the operating efficiency and safety of the solar system. Improper installation may cause safety hazards such as power loss and equipment overheating. The following are detailed installation steps and precautions.

Step 1: Cable Pretreatment

Solar cable ends need to be stripped before installation. Use a professional stripping tool to strip 6-7.5 mm of the insulation layer, pay attention to keep the copper core intact, and the number of Copper Wires cut should not exceed 5.

Recommended Tool: Wire Stripper

This tool is suitable for Solar Cables of various specifications of 1.5-10mm², with built-in cross-section identification and length limit devices to ensure stripping accuracy.

Step 2: Terminal Crimping

Crimping the special metal terminal with the wire:

  1. Adjust the crimping pliers to the corresponding solar cable specification position;
  2. Put the terminal opening into the mold with the upper side;
  3. Fully insert the solar cable until the insulation layer is against the limit;
  4. Apply force to crimp until the tool is completely closed.

Quality Requirements:

- No copper wire breakage or missing at the crimping part

- The indentation is uniform and symmetrical without burrs

- The conductor position is accurate and without offset

Take 4mm² solar cable as an example, after crimping, the following conditions must be met:

- Pull-out force ≥ 310 Newtons

- Contact resistance < 135 micro-ohms

Recommended Tool: Crimping Pliers

The tool has an automatic reset function and supports modular mold replacement to ensure stable crimping quality.

Step 3: Assembly Inspection

Insert the crimped terminal into the solar connector body, and a clear "click" sound will be heard when it is in place. The following checks are required after installation:

  1. Reverse pull test to confirm solar connector reliability
  2. Use a special wrench to reinforce the waterproof seal
  3. A crisp locking sound should be heard when the positive and negative poles are connected

The Importance of Installation Quality

Although the solar connector accounts for only a small proportion of the system cost, its importance cannot be ignored:

- Affects the conductivity of the entire system

- Relates to the long-term stability of the line connection

- Poor installation may cause safety accidents

Using qualified solar connectors and standardized operation can effectively ensure the stable operation of the solar system for more than 25 years. It is recommended that professional technicians use designated tools for installation work.
